WHAT: Do you or someone in your life struggle with hearing loss? Hearing can be restored with a cochlear implant. Come to the Hearing Health Fair. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet real cochlear implant users and hear their stories and learn about hearing health and hearing solutions from audiologists, doctors and leading hearing specialists. Find out why hearing loss occurs and why hearing aids may no longer be enough for some. Learn about available treatment options through information sessions and live demonstrations of the latest hearing technologies. Meet others who were once deaf or hard of hearing, but have since had their hearing restored with the help of a cochlear implant. Refreshments will be served.
WHEN: Saturday, June 26, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. 9:30 – 10:15 a.m.: When Hearing Aids May No Longer be Enough- How to know when hearing aids are no longer enough and information on what other solutions may be available. 10:45 – 12:15p.m..: Surgeon and Cochlear Implant User Panel- Panel discussion with cochlear implant surgeons and cochlear implant users. 12:45 – 1:30 p.m.: Life after a Cochlear Implant- Learn about living with cochlear implants and hear inspirational stories of other Kentuckians who have successfully had their hearing restored with a cochlear implant. 2:00 – 2:45 p.m.: Hearing Loss and Relationships- Personal stories of how hearing loss affects loved ones and how to manage. WHERE: Kentucky International Convention Center Room 101 221 Fourth Street Louisville, KY WHY: Kentucky currently ranks third per capita nationally with more than 646,000 people who are identified as deaf or hard of hearing (Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing). According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, aging plays a significant role in hearing loss. Rates of hearing loss jump from 18 percent for ages 45 to 64 to 30 percent for ages 65 to 74, and 47 percent for those 75 and older.
